Ole’s learning on the job and getting better at it. He totally outthought Guardiola at the Etihad but then didn’t change the system for Watford and got stuffed…but he’s put Newcastle in their place today. I’m not expecting them to perform miracles any time soon, but if I was a long term supporter then I would definitely be seeing improvement. The question then would be “can Ole get Man U to the top of the league?” and the answer is “Probably not”. Mentality as we have learned is a massive part of the game and Liverpool has a belief that just won’t quit. Leicester Nice Liverpool Fc Champions We Are Liverpool This Means More Shirt is quite like us, and it won’t be a bore draw at the King Power tonight.

Can Ole do this at ManU? I don’t think so. But who knows what could happen if they get a good run in the Europa League? I was interested in coming up with a high-level quantitative calculation of how competitive a league is based solely on which teams won the league title historically. Emphasis on high-level: obviously, I haven’t taken into account several factors and this calculation should be taken for what it is, namely, a very broad, imperfect, quantitative analysis of historical league parity. Although I sort by non-normalized parity calculation, the normalized Nice Liverpool Fc Champions We Are Liverpool This Means More Shirt parity calculation may yield more useful insights in some cases.

The calculation is simple: I’ve calculated the entropy score of each European league based on league champions. For example, if Country X has had 10 years of top-tier football, Team A has won 7 titles, and Team B has won the other 3, then Country X’s historical league parity is -(7/10 * log(7/10) + 3/10 * log(3/10)) = 0.6109. I’ve also included a normalized parity score where I divide by the square root of the total number of champions a league has crowned to try and account for newer leagues having far less parity. This is because countries that have not had top-level football for a long time tend to receive lower scores (it’s also why countries such as Germany and the Netherlands have unusually high scores). Although I sort by non-normalized parity calculation, the Nice Liverpool Fc Champions We Are Liverpool This Means More Shirt normalized parity calculation may yield more useful insights in some cases.
