I’d rather have a plug-in hybrid for an Official Yes I’m a Girl Yes I drive An Isuzu No You Cannot Drive it Shirt vehicle I’d use offroad. I’m in the southwest and there are lots of offroad miles between charging stations. Hopefully, someday batteries become energy-dense enough for portable packs to add the same amount of miles as a jerry can and that they can be rented for the cost to fill that can or less. Or better yet, that range becomes a lot longer than is normal these days and a lot cheaper too. I can see that, but you are definitely the anomaly though, 99% of SUV’s never so much as make it to an unpaved road much less something you actually need 4wd for.

Energy density is always the problem; gas and diesel are so far ahead of the alternatives in that respect that Official Yes I’m a Girl Yes I drive An Isuzu No You Cannot Drive it Shirt replacing it either takes massive infrastructure (like supercharger stations), or a huge technology leap. Obviously this is unacceptable to the average consumer. But not for a vagabond sailor. We wait for weeks or even months for the wind to be just right to make a passage. And then when we are moving, we’re going at about 5 miles an hour tops. Exploring the middle-of-nowhere desert in 30-mile bursts every couple of days is a challenge I would love to take.
